For Brett's 3rd birthday we decided to take him to the North Carolina Zoo! Grandma, Grandpa, Poppy, Memere, and Aunt Dithy all came too! We had planned on going Memorial Day for quite awhile, but the closer it got, the more it looked like it would rain all day. As of Sunday night, the chance of rain was 60%, so we decided to take the kids to an indoor kids' museum instead. As luck would have it, I woke up early Monday morning, checked out the weather, and the chance of rain was only 5% until 1pm that afternoon. We scurried around like crazy and got everyone together to spend the day at the zoo. The weather cooperated almost perfectly, only raining on us briefly for a couple minutes, and then raining LOTS on the way home. I think the kids had a great time!

We parked at North America and took the tram to Africa so that we could work our way back to our car as the day went on. Brett got to sit on the outside seat like a big boy!
Kate was not a fan of the cooler morning temps and clung to Grandpa for dear life!
The giraffes were the first animals we saw - and both kids said that they were the favorite animal. Go figure.
The zebra and ostrich (aka the "funny horse" and "big duck")
Kate was really excited to point at all of the animals
One of the NC Zoo's giraffes is the second oldest in the WORLD - impressive!
Momma and Daddy Lions - ROAR!
Trying to sneak of picture of Brett & Daddy - Brett was more interested in his new found ability to swing like a monkey
This chimp was snoozing and would NOT wake up!
These chimps were snoozing too - if you look closely, the one on the right is sleeping in a hammock. The lady at the zoo said that the younger chimps like to fight over the hammock. Our kids would fit right in!
Kate made a new friend - she and the grandpa chimp kept looking at each other. This grandpa chimp is the alpha male and likes to throw rocks, so their were several spots were the glass was cracked in this exhibit.
He looks so harmless here... very deceptive!
Kodak moment - say "cheese!"
The Patas Monkeys were pretty entertaining - they kept fighting over various spaces and climbing things around the exhibit. We said that one of them was just like Kate - a little instigator!
The elephant wouldn't turn around, but the kids still thought they were cool!
That's a seriously big egg!
Grandma & Grandpa held the kids up so that they could see the rhinos over the tall grass
We brought the double stroller, but both kids insisted on walking... some slower than others!
The Bison, specifically for Grandpa
Everyone relaxing on the wall, watching the bison
Another Kodak moment
Brett insisted on climbing the "mountain"
We got to see this old sea otter being fed... this one is retiring next month and they're bringing in a young couple to make new baby sea otters!
This polar bear was nice enough to turn around and take a dump in front of everyone - disgusting!
Checking out the crocodiles
3 generations - Brett, Daddy, & Grandpa
Brett needed a little boost from Daddy... he definitely got worn out as the day went on!
Kater-potater being our little monkey, as usual!
